Stuck (A Lyric Essay I'd Love You to Read Please and Thank You)

                HEY
Hold On, Come Here.
Closer.
this is a confession
here goes,
so i have to get this off my chest that i need to leave, like get the hell out of here, like head for the hills, maybe mountains, and remember that question kids would always get asked in ice breaker games, would you rather live in the mountains or on the beach: either is fine just not here, just out of this country, off this continent, off this planet because i need a change, to yell, to run, to throw off norms and push out of this box and onto a new path.
because we’re all stuck a little bit, aren’t we, as soon as we’re depended upon? or shown to be independent? or exercise our intelligence, whatever form that takes? as soon as they need us, even if we want to try something new? as soon as they try to push us aside or keep us down? and when did you last scream into the wild night just to tear your lungs and hear the sound?
but you know you can’t, right? what is this life for other than to go through the motions, to grind, to settle, to push and strive and set and achieve short and long term goals on the road to longer term lifelong goals, setting up pegs to knock them down along the way while justifying your existence on earth through achievement and procreation and achievements of procreation. that’s it, right? the point? because they want us small, our voices and ambitions smaller. our art and music and lives to reflect the inside of the box they think we deserve.
so no, you can’t go. you can sit and sweat. or shiver.
Here’s the thing though…
Who the fuck are you?
Who the fuck are you to tell ME? Where I can go and what I do and who I do it with? I was born with gold in my veins and emeralds on my chest, with my hair on fire and muscles flexing on high-octane, and you think you can sit me down and try to sell me a timeshare to paradise?
There’s nothing they fear more than your joy. There’s nothing they hate more than your happiness. There’s nothing they want more than you in shackles.
